It’s the time of year when parties, barbeques and Christmas feast can get the better of us, and a couple of extra kilos can magically seem to find there way onto the booty before you know it!.
It has been calculated that the average woman uses up 58 calories to cover 1km on foot. So, to work off a treat containing 360 calories, like a single Christmas mince pie, you will need to walk 6.2km. So if you think just one Christmas mince pie won't do anything to your weight and waistline, think again. It is very easy to consume a lot of extra calories with very little effort. But it takes a whole lot of effort to burn it off.
So stop before you eat, and ask yourself “Is this really worth it?”
If you do indulge yourself, make sure to eat mindfully, and eat slowly - savoring the taste and texture of what you are eating and enjoy it! Then try to balance things out by ensuring your next meal is lower in calories but is nutrient rich. Finally put on those walking shoes and get out in the gorgeous summer sunshine (for some of us) for a long walk.
Check back in tomorrow for some helpful food and nutrition tips to see you through the Christmas season feeling focused and fabulous.
As always, any questions and comments are very welcome. We would love to hear from you.
